we went to london the other night for open mic, but when we got there, there didn't seem to be one anywhere. so we just chilled at the house!

we're in goderich right now about to go for breakfast, and then hit the road to WINNIPEG!!!@

goderich is really small and nice. i just looked out the window and it's after 10am on saturday, but the streets are as busy as a sunday morning back home. we're staying right off "the square", which is really an optagon. the court house is in the middle of it.
someone didn't learn their shapes in kindegarten!

last night we went to a bar two (very small) blocks away, then to the 24 hour tim hortons, then hung out on the corner for a bit.
to talk. i swear!

oh we had a scary run-in with a heroin addict. she just wanted money and a hug. it was still scary though. we gave her a quarter and a handshake.
we came across her at the DRIVE-THRU BEER STORE!@

i LOVE the horseshoe tavern. ohmygod.

if i lived in toronto, it would be my second home.

even if it was a mediocre house band. i would still have a blast taking pictures.

absolutely amazing.

that was the one thing that i wanted to do the most here. go to the horseshoe with my camera.

down with the butterfly, naturally, did a sweet sweet job.

more later. i'm so overwhelmingly behind on pictures.

Horseshoe Tavern = Awesome

So it turns out that the late spot at the Horseshoe Tavern's "Nu music night" is not such a good thing. There wasn't much of a crowd left when the band finished. But, it was still a good show, and it's always fun to hear those guys play. A nice ending to our Toronto experience. Moe was quite excited to take some pics in the "legendary" Horseshoe. It is an awesome space, too bad there weren't more people there at the end of the night . . .

I'm sort of glad to be heading out of the city tomorrow, after a while it's just too much.

Until later,
Drea

Back in Toronto

The show last night at Mitzi's Sister was great. It's a fantastic performing space, and the crowd was awesome. Many old friends showed up to see me play, thanks guys! Also, we managed to make it all the way back to the apartment we're staying at, with little trouble (just driving in the wrong direction for a while, no biggy:).

One more night in the city, and then we're out of here. Tonight we're going to the Horseshoe Tavern to see Down With The Butterfly (again) and have some drinks. Tomorrow we're heading back to the Cambridge/Hamilton area to play an open mic night at the Pepper Jack Cafe. Thursday we're leaving early to hang out in Niagara Falls for a while, and then head into London to meet up with an old friend and play an open mic night.

THEN we're heading back to Goderich to hang out with Dave (yay! we found him!) and then on to Winnipeg. We might just stop in Thunder Bay along the way, there are a few bands on tour that we'd like to catch up with. One is Fuck The Facts, and another is Clothes Make The Man. Of course, we'll definitly be catching up with The Constantines at some point.

It's like summer here. Sunny and +15 or so. Nice day for a walk around Toronto. Or lazing on the patio and reading. Either or.

Whoopee!

Dave = not found

Today we went on a mission to find my old friend Dave in Goderich. We did end up finding my old friend Nelda who told us where Dave was working. We tried both places, and he was at both of them shortly after. We missed him by 20 minutes. But it's okay, now I have his email address. We'll find him again later.

Tonight, tonight! Mitzi's Sister on Queen St. W! So excited!

Surprise parties, birthday parties and Star Trek, TNG

Jesse is home!

My good friend arrived home on Thursday and on Friday he surprised a bunch of us as we were drinking at Cafe Volo. It was an awesome party which lasted until the wee hours of the morning and included some interesting overseas phone-calls (prego?), and a voicemail message to our favorite comedian, Mike Bullard.

Last night Moe and I briefly attended a birthday party for David Picco, a great musician, at the home of Megan Hamilton, one of the lovely people who will be sharing the stage with me at Mitzi's Sister tomorrow night. We were only there for a little while, as we wanted to catch the subway before they stopped running for the night, and discovered were were quite tired after the late night Friday.

Today we decided to get out of the city, as it was getting a bit expensive (eating out all of the time, drinking too much beer) and also I wanted to give our gracious host and hostess a bit of space. So, we're back in Cambridge hanging at my brother's pad, watching Star Trek TNG and relaxing. I'm planning on heading out to Goderich to take a look around, as I stayed there for a while during the Katimavik program, and I really would like to track down my old friend Dave MacKechnie. It's been seven years . . .

And thankfully, my cold is gone. I'm looking forward to playing a number of shows this week, and then driving out to Winnipeg.

It's cloudy but fairly warm here, good weather for driving.

CRW_2619

so after the gig in rothesay, we went to another gig at a private club. callbox. there were no markings outside to suggest there was a bar filled with drunk people inside, but we found it.

CRW_2631

it was definitely an interesting time!

CRW_2633

after that we went to elwoods. the peter parkers were playing there, but they played earlier so we ended up missing them. i was dissapointed, but the band we caught, wooden wives, was a lot of fun. i really like this bar, and there were a lot of cute musician boys there.

CRW_2637

they even bought a bunch of cupcakes for everyone! cause yer not fucking irish unless yer eatin a goddamn cupcake.
or so i've been told...
CRW_2652

i'm told there's a guy called port city adam in this picture!
CRW_2653

they were a bunch of fun to photograph.

CRW_2654

i'm not sure what this girls name is. i think she was a guest singer. she had one hell of a voice.

CRW_2655

i think this one is my favourite:

Cambridge/Hamilton

We took a drive out of the big city yesterday to visit my sister and brother in Cambridge. It was a lovely day filled with laundry, showers, chats and little children. After a fabulous dinner (thanks again Julie!) we heading to Mike's place to have a drink and then drive to Hamilton to surprise Halifax band Down With The Butterfly where they were playing at The Underground, on Catherine St. NOT Catherine Court, as the internet told me, and then sent me on a wild and crazy drive through a residential neighborhood. But we had a fun little drive on a gravel road through the woods and hills. It was fun! Then as we got downtown, we managed to find the bar with extremely little difficulty. Good times were had by all.

Except for the fact that the show had started early, and was over by midnight. Apparently around here everyone goes to the bar early, and leaves early. Not so in the Maritimes, where no one leaves home before 11pm and the crowds get to the bars around midnight. Wierd.

So, today we're heading back into Toronto to hang out with a few friends there, and drink lots at an awesome place called Cafe Volo. I'm super excited. And, in other good news, my cold seems to be almost gone - I think I might just be okay for the gig on Monday.

Here's a tentative schedule for the next week or so;

Friday - Sunday - Toronto
Monday - Gig at Mitzi's Sister, 1554 Queen St. W, starting at 9pm
Tuesday - going to see Down With The Butterfly at the Horseshoe Tavern, 10pm
Wednesday - heading back to Cambridge/Hamilton to play open stage in Hamilton (Pepper Jack Cafe, 38 King William St)
Thursday - heading to Niagara Falls/London to play open stage at Robinson Hall
Friday - starting the drive to Winnipeg

Subject to change . . .

We're good, car is good, Mike made us banana pancakes and eggs this morning. Yum.
Take care y'all,
Drea

Toronto!

Here we are, drinking some beers in Toronto with our good friends Andrew and Erica. They're fabulous and awesome for letting us stay here for a little while. Tomorrow, we're going to visit my sister and her family in Cambridge. Hopefully, she'll let us do a bit of laundry. :)

We had a lovely drive from Montreal and Toronto today, the weather was nice for the most part and it was an easy drive. Doris is doing great, we filled her up with oil and windshield washer fluid today and she's driving well. What a trooper.

This week will involve a bunch of getting together with old friends and I'm really excited about that . . .

More posts later when it's not late and stuff,

Andrea

Bio-dome!

In a few minutes, we'll be jumping on the metro to go to the Biodome. Monkeys!

Last night, Moe went out with a few people and I crashed on the futon because I was feeling like crap. I'm not sure exactly why, but I always end up getting sick a few days into a trip like this. I'm sure it'll pass soon enough.

Bye!

Montreal!

After 3.5 hours of driving from PEI to Rothesay, two gigs played (Sessions and last minute gig at a semi-private club in St. John called The Callbox), a few beers drank at Elwoods, 5 hours of sleeping followed by an awesome breakfast at Andrew's, and 11 more hours of driving, we've reached Montreal! We also managed to find Ryan's apartment to drop off Kira, and we also found Lisa's place! As long as Doris hasn't been towed by the snow clearers, everything is just fine.

So we're going to hang out here for a few days, and then head to Toronto on Wednesday for the open mic night at Mitzi's. I'm gonna go find some coffee now. Moe took some funny pictures, hopefully she'll upload some today.

aaaand within an hour of getting in rothesay, andrea & nikkie scored another gig RIGHT AFTER the one at sessions. at some "private club" or something. call box is the name of the place. they had a cancellation, and the guy who runs it happened to be here for a beer or something, and asked if they wanted to play there too.

hurrah for random gigs!

this one is actually IN saint john. on charlotte street. i think it's in the north end. i was told the north end is where all the murders happen.

NOT TO WORRY ANYONE OR ANYTHING!

The Guardian

Today, there's a half-page spread about the tour/documentary project in The Guardian. It's written beautifully by Cheryl-Lynn Murray (some of you may remember her from her awesome singing at open mic nights). It's a fantastic article, and Cheryl deserves a round of applause for that one. Thanks Cheryl!

Doris is back!

We had a little mis-hap with Doris a few weeks ago. She sort of, um, stopped working in the middle of an intersection in Charlottetown while Moe and I were on our way to a photo shoot downtown. The problem was simply a loose wire. I credit my Dad and my mechanic for finding the problem will little fuss and little cost to me. So, Doris is back and she's better than ever. She likes the warmer weather, and we had a great time today running errands and driving out to my drummer's place . . . Yay for Doris!

Tonight is our big fundraising event. We are pleased to be filming my CD launch party at Baba's, with the gracious help of the Cashmere Disciples, Out From Under and Pat Deighan and the Orb Weavers. And, I will be joined onstage for a few songs by my drummer, Jaimie Rygiel. We're sort of gonna blow the audience away . . .

The show starts at 10pm, and I'll be playing around 11, so come on out and buy a CD! Help us pay for gas on our tour!
